Best Brunch Places in Penang, Malaysia

Penang hasn't been named as World's No.1 Food Destination for no reason. Food is abundant and diverse in this beautiful colonial heritage site, and there are so many restaurants, stalls and cafes, that it's nearly impossible to try everything in a lifetime. To start off this new food category on Things Nomads Do, here's a list of my favorite brunch places in Penang, Malaysia:

Yin's Sourdough Bakery

At Yin's Sourdough Bakery

This little breakfast/brunch place is quite famous in Penang for -as the name already implies- its' super amazing sourdough bread. The owner actually started this bakery because she found that Sourdough bread was better for her mum's diet. It's a very simple breakfast place, but you can totally taste how much care they put in their bread and dishes. And the coffee and cakes are pretty amazing as well!Yin's has two locations: one which is the actual bakery and the other one is also a pizza place.

Address: 11, Pesara Claimant, George Town, 10100 George Town

Urban Daybreak is quite a popular brunch restaurant in the city center of Georgetown. They have some amazing brunch dishes that really fill you up. I had an amazing avocado toast with poached eggs and some roasted cherry tomatoes. Yum!! Definitely worth going back for. They also serve quite big portions, so you definitely get your money's worth!

High tea at Ferringhi Coffee Garden

This quaint little garden cafe we found accidentally while visiting the Batu Ferringhi beach. The cafe is decorated with lots and lots of plants and flowers and plays relaxing jazz music, making it a perfect chill-out spot after you have visited the beach. Definitely, try the high tea for two people; it comes with either coffee or tea.

Dim Sum at Prosperous Dim Sum

Prosperous Dim Sum

If you want to follow the local Chinese people and try their version of weekend brunch, go to a dim sum place like Prosperous Dim Sum and fill your belly with dumplings, buns and egg tarts! As it's self-service, you have to go to the counter to get some of the bamboo baskets filled with the lovely dumplings or buns.

Price Range: $

Must-try: Dumplings, buns, egg tarts... Everything!

LOLLIPOP Ropitiam

For some local breakfast head to this funky place located on Lebuh Campbell, and order yourself some kaya toast, which is a coconut spread that locals love. If you feel courageous enough, also order some poached eggs; just know that they are very, very runny.
