Best Specialty Coffee Places in Sofia, Bulgaria

There’s a lot to see and do in Sofia, including trying all the amazing specialty coffee shops that you can find in the capital of Bulgaria! Even though the city isn’t all too big, it does have quite a large amount of specialty coffee places.

In this blog post, I’ll list my favourite coffee places I’ve tried in Sofia. Scroll down to find a map with all the coffee spots marked for your convenience:)

Let’s check out the best coffee shops in Sofia below 👇

Coffee Syndicate

Coffee Syndicate is arguably my favourite coffee place in Sofia, because in the span of the 12 days I spent in the city, I went back to this cafe at least 6 times! And it wasn’t even close to my accommodation 😅 And for good reasons it seems, because they have recently been names Best Specialty Coffee in Bulgaria by the European Coffee Trip.

They’ve got some amazing coffee here (they serve Fried Hats coffee), as well as some really inventive coffee drinks, such as Espresso Tonics with rosemary (which was my favourite!) and other, more elaborate coffee drinks.

Even though I haven’t tried them, their Eclairs look amazing as well! You can also sit upstairs, where you can take in the view on the mountains around Sofia.

The Family Coffee Roasters

This cafe is located right in the city centre of Sofia and not only do they serve excellent specialty coffee, they also have some nice pastries, such as the famous Bulgarian banitsa that you typically have for breakfast. I really loved their version as it was super crunchy, and the cheese inside was super flavourful 😄

This is also a nice little spot to work from for a bit, with pretty fast internet.

  • Open Monday to Friday from 8AM to 6:30PM, Saturday from 9AM to 7PM, Sunday from 10AM to 7PM

Drekka

Drekka looks a bit like a coffee pop-up cafe (but it is actually just a regular cafe), located in the neighbourhood of Oborishte, which lies in the north of the city centre. This cafe serves really great specialty coffee drinks, as well as some fancier teas, in case you’re more of a tea person.

  • Open Monday, Thursday & Friday from 9AM to 5PM, and Saturday and Sunday from 10AM to 5PM

Martines Specialty Coffee Shop

Another great coffee shop in the city centre, is Martines Specialty Coffee Shop. It’s a cute little cafe that serves top-notch specialty coffee. I also liked their more elaborate coffee drinks, such as infused Cold Brews with different syrups. I had one with Elderflower syrup and it was delicious.

  • Open Monday to Friday from 9AM to 6PM, Saturday and Sunday from 10AM to 6PM

sabale

sabale is more of a brunch spot, but their coffee game is also very good. Aside from their fantastic breakfast and brunch dishes, such as breakfast platters with Italian cold cuts or an extremely delicious french omelette, they also serve great coffee and pastries. I loved this spot because the quality of the food and drinks was stellar, in my opinion. Definitely recommend you to go here if you have the chance, and try their coffee, breakfast and pastries.

  • Open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 8AM to 4PM, Saturday and Sunday from 9AM to 5PM

Dabov Specialty Coffee

Dabov Specialty Coffee has several locations in Sofia and you’ll be sure to secure an excellent cup of coffee when you visit on of their locations.

  • Opening times depends on the locations

Bloom Specialty Coffee

Another quaint little cafe that serves amazing specialty grade coffee is Bloom Specialty Coffee, located in the north of the city centre of Sofia. It opens early at 8AM which I really appreciate. The coffee they serve is from Bug Coffee, a specialty coffee roaster that is located in Sofia.

  • Open daily from from 8AM to 6PM

Altruist - Urban Coffee Shop & Bakery

The Altruist is a specialty coffee spot and also a bakery, and their pastries and cakes are delicious. In the image you can see their version of a Bulgarian banitsa, filled with Bulgarian cheese and egg. They also have a garden which is especially nice in the summer to have a seat and sip your coffee there.

  • Open daily from 7AM to 7:30PM
