Cafes To Work From In Melbourne, Australia

Melbourne has loads of specialty coffee shops and cafes - it is after all often called the mecca of specialty coffee. However, when I went there to do some remote working, I found it surprisingly hard to find coffee shops where one could work from and who offered free wifi. This is very different from the cafes I’m used to in South East Asia, but perhaps not so different from Western Europe.

Therefore, I have not been able to find that many spots in my few weeks spent in Melbourne, but I am sure there are more that I don’t know of. If you have a tip on a great cafe to work from in Melbourne, please do let me know in the comments and I can add it to this guide!

Find below a list of just a few spots and cafes I found that are great to work from in Melbourne Australia.

Guild

A cafe bar and counter

Guild is a cafe located in the back of the Victoria State Library, right in the centre of Melbourne (CBD area). They’ve got fast wifi and also plug outlets to charge your devices. They also serve pretty decent coffee and food, and I liked the cozy feel of the library setting.

  • Open from Monday - Friday from 9AM to 4PM, Weekends from 10AM to 3:30PM

ACOFFEE

ACOFFEE is a specialty coffee place in Collingwood. It’s a cool - looking cafe with excellent coffee and a big table to work from. I went to work from there one day, and loved the vibes, the coffee and the tunes!

The Bridge Between Emporium Mall and Melbourne Central (2nd floor)

An open laptop on a wooden table with plants and a coffee

This is not really a cafe but it is a pretty cool place to work from! You can grab a coffee to go from a cafe around and go sit here. It’s basically a little co-working space that sits in the bridge on the second floor of the two malls in CBD. What amazed me was the fast wifi - it was almost 200 mbs! I’ve also seen some people so calls here, and you’ve got plug outlets to charge your devices, as well as a nice view on the city. What more would you want?

Industry Beans Fitzroy

Industrial design cafe with seats

Even though this is more of a brunch and specialty coffee place, it is quite a big cafe and when I went here, I’ve seen one or two people on their laptops. Even though I didn’t work from there, I did see that they have wifi too. So, it seems like a great place to work from for a few hours, one that serves really amazing coffee and food.

  • Open from Monday to Friday from 7AM to 3:30PM, Weekends from 8AM to 3:30PM

Tone Coffee

A cafe with people drinking coffee and chatting

Tone Coffee is a specialty coffee spot located in the neighbourhood of Prahran, to the south east of Melbourne. It’s a cozy cafe with a big table to work from (you can see it in the back of the picture above).

When you’re there, uou also need to try the famous Tiger Bomb icyd coffee drink that this cafe is famous for!

  • Open from Monday - Friday from 7:30AM to 3:30PM, Saturday from 8:30AM to 4:30PM, Sunday from 9AM to 4PM

Bailey Espresso Bar

This little cafe is located in CBD and has a big enough table to work from. They do have wifi from the hotel next to it, which I managed to connect to, but it took a while for it to connect properly 😅. They’ve got good coffee too, as well as some breakfast muffins. Overall, it wasn’t my favourite place to work from, but if you’re in the area and need a place to work from, then this is a good option.

  • Open from Monday - Friday from 6:30AM to 4PM (Closed on Weekends)
