Hotel Classification: 5 stars

The Hyatt Regency in Sanur, Bali is a 5-star resort located right next to the Sanur beach. This hotel was recently renovated (finished in approximately 2023) and features three pools, a gym, a spa, two restaurants, lush tropical gardens and a lounge.

I stayed at the hotel in December 2023 for five nights. Read below my hotel review and rating!

Please note: The below review summarises my independent thoughts on my stay at the Hyatt Regency Sanur. This isn’t a collaboration with this hotel as I stayed there on my own cost. Also, the views and opinions expressed in this blog post are solely mine, the content creator of Things Nomads Do.

Hotel Grounds

Lobby & Hotel Grounds

Lobby at the Hyatt Regency Sanur Bali

The Lobby of the Hyatt Regency in Sanur is a big hall with a gorgeous view on the hotel gardens. The design is traditional Balinese with a touch of modern design as well.

The hotel has recently been renovated and everything looks quite new and modern. The only downside is that the buildings itself are a bit older, as you can see from the low ceilings and the slightly run-down concrete walls.

The Hotel Grounds feature lush tropical gardens, ponds with koi fish and even a family of ducks! It’s quite a big resort; I almost hit 10,000 steps everyday just by walking back and forth from my room to the pool, to the beach and to the restaurants 😂

Pools

The pool at the Hyatt Regency Sanur Bali

The main pool area sits right behind the main restaurant and features a few pools including a children’s pool.

There are plenty of lounge chairs available all around the pools as well as in front of the beach area. There are many trees surrounding the pools, which is great for some natural shade.

Gym & Spa

The Spa at the Hyatt Regency Sanur Bali

The Gym and Spa are located just behind the first building and it features a full spa, separate changing rooms for men and women and each of these changing rooms had access to a small, outside area with several jacuzzi’s, which was really lovely!

The gym itself was decent too; though I thought it was a bit small, as there were not that many weights and just one bench, so if one person was there you basically had to wait your turn…

In front of the gym there was also another big pool, which was great for swimming laps. Also, it was a bit more quiet than the main pools as there were fewer people and kids. I think I actually preferred this pool over the main ones!

The Beach

The beach in Sanur, Bali

The Hyatt Regency Sanur has some fantastics lounge beds right on the beach, and I enjoyed lounging there in the morning, when the water was calm and clear. Sanur has one of the best beaches in Bali in my opinion, as I love still and clear waters. You can also rent paddle boards and jetski’s at the beach. If you’re lucky, a friendly Bali dog will lie next to you under a lounge bed:)

The hotel sits right at the beach boulevard that you can walk all along the pretty Sanur beach coast.

Room

Hotel Room in Hyatt Regency Sanur Bali
The bathroom in the Hyatt Regency Sanur Bali Hotel

The room I stayed at was in the third building, called the “Bougainvillea“ building. It was a bit of a walk from the lobby (maybe around 7 minutes), but I didn’t mind - it was good to get my steps in everyday!

The room design is of a lovely Bali interior style, with lots of wooden furniture with intricate Balinese designs and decor, with soft and natural beige and brown tones. I loved the big wooden door to the bathroom, also a typical Balinese touch. When I arrived, some fruits were waiting for me, and there was plenty of drinking water which they put in glass bottles and reused, which I thought is an excellent idea and sustainable practice, especially compared to the plastic bottles you often see in hotels.

The bed is big and amazingly comfy! I definitely slept like an angel. The sheets were soft and in the evening it was always prepped for me.

The room itself also featured a big and beautiful balcony, with view on the gardens and a nice and cozy lounge chair. Unfortunately, I didn’t really get to enjoy it as I was always out by the pool or the beach - but I wish I did!

It was also a very quiet room - I think one of the benefits of being in the last building and facing the outer gardens. There were some other rooms that may be a bit more noisy; they put my parents in a room in the first building facing some sort of generator at first, which made a lot of noise. When they requested to change rooms, they got another, more quiet room.

All in all, I thought the room was really lovely and I can’t think of any negatives!

Food

Breakfast

Breakfast at the regency club lounge hyatt regency sanur bali

The main breakfast buffet is served at the Omang Omang Restaurant. They have a large selection of food, including western and asian food options. You can also order some popular brunch dishes like Eggs Benedict or even avocado toast which they make to order and bring to your table.

Dinner

Gado Gado at Omang Omang Restaurant

I mostly had dinner at the lounge, but I also tried the two restaurants that are in the hotel.

Restaurant Omang Omang

This is the main restaurant in the Hyatt Regency Sanur, which serves traditional Indonesian food. I tried the Sate Ayam (Grilled chicken skewers with peanut sauce) and also the Gado-Gado (Indonesian salad), which were both delicious.

Overall, I think the restaurant was decent - but you can probably get better Indonesian food at a much lower price outside of the resort.

Restaurant Pizzaria

The other restaurant in the hotel is an Italian restaurant serving more upscale Italian food. I tried the pasta, which was pretty good. I did not try the pizza. The location of the restaurant is really lovely as it’s right at the beachfront. Some evening they also had live music playing.

Lounge

Regency Club lounge Hyatt Sanur

The Regency Club lounge was located between the first and the second building. To reach it, you need to walk through a little path through the garden.

I loved loved loved the open-air style of the lounge, which is situated on a couple of pagodas with high ceilings surrounded by a pond. It’s so soothing to sit there and have a drink, the faint sound of the water fountains in the pond and the Gamelan music playing in the background.

The service at the lounge was also excellent - everybody is always greeting you and smiling.

There are two services in the lounge at the Hyatt Regency in Sanur:

  • Breakfast from 6:30 AM to 10:30 AM

  • Evening Bites from 5PM to 7PM

The only tiny downside of this service is that the evening bites started and ended rather early. At 5PM I was often still at the pool or the beach and then I already had to leave to get ready for the lounge evening service. I know that they want to encourage people to have dinner after, but there is more than enough food at the lounge, so after I wasn’t hungry anymore but because it ended so early I didn’t really know what else to do. Anyway, it’s not really a criticism entirely, maybe it’s food for thought for the management;)

Food at the lounge

Breakfast buffet at the lounge Hyatt Regency Sanur

The breakfast at the lounge has a decent selection of items; it’s a slightly more limited version of the official breakfast buffet at the Omang Omang Restaurant. For me, the selection was more than enough. There were different kinds of pastries and bread, as well as cold cuts, cheese, Asian options such as fried rice and fruit. You could also order eggs and pancakes, so the usual breakfast items.

I loved the selection of Indonesian pastries, which was different everyday. Another special mention is that their coffee was quite decent, and there was a barista making the coffee every morning. I am a bit of a specialty coffee snob and the vast majority of coffee made at hotels is pretty bad, but this one was pretty decent so I was pleasantly surprised.

The evening bites are delicious and feature a lot of different dishes and every evening there is something different. They have a lot of food, mostly Asian cuisine, as well as breads, cheese and cold cuts, fruit and desserts. You can also order unlimited wine and cocktails!

Service

The service throughout my stay was always excellent. Everyone always greets you and smiles at you and they always do their best to help you. For example at the lounge, even though there were so many people, they always remembered me.

I also asked for a later checkout and it was no problem. When I called to change the time for my transportation to the airport because my flight was delayed it was absolutely no problem either.

Location

Sanur Beach in Bali

The location of the Hyatt Regency Sanur is quite central and in the middle of Sanur. You can easily access the beach promenade from the hotel grounds and also the main street of Sanur, where you will find lots of restaurants and shops. It’s also just a 25 - 30 minute drive from the airport.

Of course, you can use taxis and grabs to get around Bali.

THE PROS

  • Gorgeous hotel grounds with lush tropical gardens

  • Very comfortable, spacious and beautifully designed room

  • Excellent and friendly service

  • Convenient location in the middle of Sanur and right next to the beach and the beach boulevard

  • Emphasis on sustainability, such as the glass water bottles instead of plastic bottles is a big plus

  • Really nice Regency Club lounge with excellent food and drinks

THE CONS

  • There are many families with kids, which is mostly lovely and fine, but they can be a bit wild in the pool area during the day. In that case, escape to the pool at the gym!

  • The evening bites at the lounge started and ended a bit too early, so you had to rush from the pool to get there and then the food service was finished already at 7pm which meant afterwards there was not much to do, as you were not really hungry to go to another restaurant.. (First world problems, yes I know!)

  • This one is a bit nit picky but I do believe that once you pay so much for your stay it should be better: The wine was mostly fine but in some cases it was not good anymore or also the wrong temperature (e.g. cold red wine).

Overall Rating: 9 / 10
