Hotel Review: KeSa House, Singapore

Hotel Classification: 4 Star

It’s again Hotel Review time! In this post, I’ll write about the KeSa House in Singapore.

KeSa House managed by the Unlimited Collection (Owned by ASR) is a hotel built into a few Singaporean heritage townhouses from the 1920’s. It’s conveniently located in Chinatown, and just a few minutes away from Outram metro.

Read on for my thoughts on the hotel grounds, the room, the service and the location of the KeSa House in Singapore.

Please note: The below review summarises my independent thoughts on my stay at the KeSa House in Singapore. This isn’t a collaboration with this hotel as I stayed there on my own cost. Also, the views and opinions expressed in this blog post are solely mine, the content creator of Things Nomads Do.

Hotel Grounds

Lobby

The lobby at the KeSa House in Singapore

The lobby of the hotel is located on the ground floor and the reception is just on the left when you enter the house. It doesn’t really feel like a regular hotel lobby - it had a more cozy and familiar feel, a bit like when you are in someone’s home.

There’s also a small seating area when you walk around the corner from the reception towards the elevator.

KeSa house doesn’t have any restaurants so there’s not breakfast that you can get at the hotel itself, but because of the hotel’s location, you are just steps away from many cafes, bakeries and restaurants. You could even go to the Hawker for breakfast, as Maxwell Food Centre is just 10 minutes away.

Shared Spaces (Living Room + Kitchen)

a cozy hotel living room

KeSa House has a living room style lounge area on the first floor, which is super cozy and you can relax on the sofa or do some work on the high tables.

I really liked the decor - I would say it’s Scandi style with a touch of art deco. There were lots of wooden details, and soft grey tones.

On the same floor, there’s also a shared kitchen which I imagine can be super handy, especially for guests who may stay a bit longer term at this hotel. I didn’t use it personally, but it looked very clean and there were all the utensils you might need for cooking something. I do think the kitchen was a bit small; I’m not sure how it would work if multiple people wanted to cook there.

There’s a corner with free tea, water and coffee as well as some biscuits, which is great for a quick snack.

Next to the kitchen there is a little outdoor patio as well, which looked very cozy. However, it’s probably too hot to sit there though during the day 😅

There is also a small laundry room in the hotel which is very convenient. I didn’t use it during my 2-night stay, but I always appreciate a laundry room in hotels.

Room

I booked the standard room without windows, which was the cheapest price. I figured as I was only staying for two nights and would mostly be out, I’d go for the cheapest room rate.

The room is small but the layout is very practically designed. There is a little working desk and enough storage space for a bigger luggage too. You also have a mini fridge, a kettle as well as an ironing board in the room. The room is also sparkling clean and tastefully decorated.

The bathroom is small but modern - for one person it was perfect.

The bed is very comfortable I have to say! The linen is soft and clean, and the bed is big.

The room may be a bit small for two people, though if you will be out and about for most of the day, it’s really fine. As you’ve got the shared spaces too, you can use those to hang out as well.

One issue I had with the room was that there was a long horizontal window next to the bed, which was tinted, but at night there was still some light coming through which bothered me quit a bit, so I just stuffed some pillows to cover the light.

I thought the room was pretty quiet overall - the walls aren’t very thick however, so you can hear people walking up and down the hallway, but I’ve found everyone to be quite respectful and quiet throughout my stay. Some reviews online mention that there is some noise - personally, I wasn’t affected by this, but it depends of course on how sensitive you are and if maybe there are events going on in the street at certain times of the year.

Service

The service at the KeSa House is nothing special - I basically just checked in and out with no fuss, but there was no other interaction, really.

The staff are friendly and courteous, nothing more, nothing less. Therefore, I can’t really say much about the service as there were not many occasions to interact with them!

In general though, I find the service in Singapore quite bland, as in, it’s very transactional and there is not much warmth usually; especially if you compare it with places like Thailand or Indonesia.

However, I read some reviews for the KeSa House and many people actually praise the service and the staff. So, I think overall, you’ll find decent service and friendly staff at this hotel,

Location

The front of KeSa House hotel in Singapore

The location of KeSa House in my opinion is one of the best! I’ve stayed at a few hotels in Singapore already and I think the location close to Chinatown as well as the metro where several lines stop is super.

There are many cafes and restaurants nearby, as well as some of my favourite neighbourhoods, such as Ann Siang Hill, which is a lovely spot to wander around.

On the opposite side of the metro, there are also several buses that take you to various locations in Singapore.

The green metro line, which takes you to the airport, also stops at Outram metro, so it’s also very easy to get to the airport  from KeSa House.

Here are some options for breakfast and coffee in the area:

Price

I think the price per night is great value for money for a boutique, 4 star hotel in Singapore. I paid around 120 - 130 euros per night, which I thought was pretty fair.

Especially for the area and being so centrally located, I think the KeSa House is a great option for a mid-range budget traveller. Singapore can get pretty expensive, and many 4 star hotels are priced between 160 and 250 euros nowadays.

Book KeSa House

If you’re convinced that KeSa House by the unlimited Collection may be a great hotel for you during your stay in Singapore, check out the room rates for your travel dates below:

PROS

  • The location of KeSa House is excellent - just steps away from many major sights to see in Singapore, such as Chinatown, as well as being right next to the metro stop.

  • Tastefully decorated and very clean and modern hotel

  • Cozy and modern room that is practically designed; comfortable bed and clean bathroom

  • Shared kitchen and cozy living room

  • Great value for money - I think the price-value ratio for this hotel is very high

  • Easy to get to and from the airport - using the green metro line, which is right next to the hotel.

CONS

  • I didn’t like that the window in my bedroom couldn’t be covered and it was very bright at night - but I have to say, I’m also a bit fuss when it comes to brightness levels at night 😂

  • Some reviews mention it can be a bit noisy - as it’s so centrally located, this could make sense. I did hear a bit of music the first night but the second night it was very quiet.

  • Service was not spectacular,  but I’ve found this in many hotels and restaurants in Singapore, so maybe it’s more of a Singapore thing.
