Hotel Review: InterContinental Robertson Quay, Singapore

Hotel Classification: 5 Star

Book this hotel: Book InterContinental, Robertson Quay

The InterContinental Robertson Quay Hotel is a stylish and sleek hotel located super centrally in Singapore; near the Riverwalk which takes you all the way to Marina Bay along the river.

It’s also one of the few hotels in Singapore that has a Lounge!

The InterContinental, Robertson Quay is targeting perhaps more business people, although I thought it was a great stay for pleasure too.

Read below my review and impressions during my 3-night stay at this 5-star hotel.

Please note: The below review summarises my independent thoughts on my stay at the InterContinental, Robertson Quay. This isn’t a collaboration with this hotel as I stayed there on my own cost. Lobby & Interior Design

I really liked the sleek and elegant style of the hotel, which is the usual “InterContinental Hotel” style. Next to the lobby, there was a lovely seating area where you could chill and get a drink if you wanted to.

It’s a very classical style, with lots of marble and velvet armchairs for example.

While it’s not a super big hotel, I think it was just the right size, and it was easy to get around.

Pool & Gym

The Pool is located on the 4th floor, right next to the lobby and the lounge. It’s quite long - about 25m! The swimming pool was refreshing and not too busy at all. There were only a few lounge chairs too, however, not that many so sometimes we were not able to sit at the pool as every chair was taken.

All in all, a nice pool which was great to use to do some laps.

The gym is located on the ground floor, at the edge of the building. It’s a bit on the smaller side, but it has all you need for a quick workout.

Room

Bathroom at the Intercontinental Robertson Quay Singapore

The standard room at the Intercontinental Robertson Quay is modern and comfortable. There’s a King sized bed, and an open style bathroom, plus a separate toilet. You can close the sliding doors for more privacy in the bathroom.

There’s also a nice, small sitting area with a leather armchair, where you can lounge, or even work, and take in the view at the window.

There are also black out curtains, which I find very important for me personally, as I am a light (aka spoiled 😂) sleeper.

The only con I can think of is that maybe the room is a tad bit small, especially for two people. For one person it is more than enough, but for two it gets a bit cramped.

The bathroom was clean, modern & convenient; the rain shower was great and all toiletries, like shampoo, conditioner, body wash and lotion were available. Somehow the conditioner made my hair super soft, which does not happen often!

Food

Breakfast

Breakfast buffet selection at the lounge

Breakfast at the Intercontinental Robertson Quay Singapore

The regular breakfast buffet is located in the Publico restaurant on the first floor. The selection is extensive, with an egg station, pastries & bread section, western & Asian food options, changing daily. The coffee is alright, I wouldn’t say it was outstanding.

Most of the days, I had breakfast at the lounge, which has basically the same food options (read below for my thoughts on that:).

Publico Restaurant

There is also an Italian restaurant on the first floor, located right next to the river. I went once for dinner and ordered a Vongole Spaghetti, which was pretty good. It was rather busy, as it was a weekend night. However, I liked the vibe of the restaurant at night - definitely more of a hip spot!

There are many food options available just outside of the hotel, so in my opinion, there’s no need for more restaurants directly in the hotel.

Lounge

the Lounge at the Intercontinental Robertson Quay Singapore
Lounge at the Intercontinental Robertson Quay Singapore

The Lounge is located on the 4th floor, accessible with your room card, and also features a nice terrace, which is pleasant to sit outside.

They have the following services:

  • Buffet Breakfast from 6:30AM to 10:30AM

  • Afternoon Tea from 2PM to 4PM

  • Evening Canapes and drinks from 6PM to 8PM

The breakfast at the lounge had mostly the same selection as the normal breakfast at the Publico restaurant downstairs, which is great because in many lounges the selection of the buffet breakfast can be quite limited. We therefore had breakfast mostly at the lounge because it was way more quiet and relaxed, and you could sit on the terrace. The selections was very good, there were pastries, western and asian options (char sieuw buns!). The coffee was alright, nothing special.

The Afternoon Tea service was excellent as well; you could choose between a variety of teas and you also got a few high tea snacks, such as finger sandwiches, quiches, scones and sweets, both local and more western (see image below).

The Evening Canapes were served from 6PM to 8PM. You could get unlimited drinks and they would serve you a plate with canapés; small bites to go with your drink. It’s definitely meant to be a small bite before your actual dinner, so don’t expect a lot of food in the evening.

In between the food services, the lounge is always open to grab a coffee or a tea and there are light snacks available such as chips, nuts and cookies.

One small comment about the lounge is that inside the temperature is slightly on the colder side, so that’s why I preferred to sit outside on the terrace.

Service

The staff was always very friendly and super professional. When we arrived, we wanted to grab a bite at the lounge, but since it was almost 8PM, we had to hurry and the woman at the reception kindly told us to go have a seat and gra a bite while she would check us in and bring us the room keys later. Super considerate!

However, at the end of our stay, we asked for a later check-out, maybe just 1 hour more, but the lady at the reception said it wasn’t possible at first and she seemed quite reluctant to give us the late checkout which wasn’t very friendly in my opinion.

All in all however, the service and staff were professional and friendly, especially the staff in the lounge!

Location

The location of the Intercontinental, Robertson Quay was super convenient, as it was located right next to the Riverwalk and you could take a nice stroll along the river. There were also many restaurants located around the hotel, as well as a mall in walking distance (Great World Mall).

The only comment I may have is that the metro was slightly further; the nearest metro was Fort Canning (blue line), which was about 11 minutes walking. However, this is a very minor detail, and I think the majority of this hotel’s clientele would take a taxi instead of the metro.

THE PROS

  • Modern, sleek and stylish hotel

  • Great location, close to the river walk at Robertson Quay. It was a short 12 min walk to the Great World Mall and the metro station

  • Excellent rooms, with comfy beds and it’s very quiet

  • Good and professional service. Staff in the lounge were especially friendly.

  • Nice lap pool

  • Good lounge, offering breakfast, afternoon tea and evening canapes

THE CONS

  • It was a bit cold in some areas, such as the hotel lobby and the lounge (inside). I think I actually got a small cold and cough because of it..

  • The staff was sometimes a tiny bit standoffish

  • The evening canapés at the lounge were very little - it’s definitely meant for just an appetiser before your actual dinner. However, this is to be expected as well.
